The important underlying downside of most kinds of foot pain could be a functional abnormality that will want to be corrected. This group typically tends to push through the pain barrier until it is not possible to go on any longer. Over time the strain on the foot compounds and eventually ends up in an overuse injury.

If your ball of foot pain is located around the 3rd and 4th toes, this may be associated with a neuroma (Although neuromas can also occur between other toes, they occur most commonly between the 3rd and 4th toes). Often, people with a neuroma find that removing their shoes and massaging the area eases ball of foot pain. Sesamoiditis  often results from activities that put increased force on the ball of the foot, such as running or dancing. Pain from sesamoiditis is usually focused on the ball of the foot near the big toe and will often be worse when moving the big toe joint.
